The first time I heard of a spin off series-I thought that without rose the series would lose all flavor.but Sydney is just as good.it leaves you hanging at the end when Adrian is releasing his feelings for Sydney when Demetrius walks in.gasp!a nail biter!!CAN NOT wait for the second one.

The book started quite slowly with not much action; however, it did allow for the context set up and provided more background on Sidney. Action picked up half way through and it was definitely worth the wait. I really enjoy the Sidney character. Richelle Mead has a great way of narrating from a different character's point of view and "head" and Sidney is really different from Rose. I am hoping that the next books will keep up the pace set at the end of this book and that we continue to see Adrian, whom I really like.

At first, I didn't have any hope at all for the spinoff series. Rose is probably one of the best characters I have ever read about and I couldn't even entertain the idea of the same world without her. However, Sydney did prove herself and I had always wanted to know what her deal was with Abe. I was kinda hoping for there to be more romance, but it was still good. I've always liked Adrian, and the new perspective made me like him even more :) Since school kinda interferes with everything, I couldn't finish it in one sitting like I hoped, but I did find myself excited to keep on reading throughout the entire book. :)

I had hope for this book. I could not finish the book. There was not much action and a very slow read. I have Vampire Academy on hold and I think I am going to cancel the hold.

I thought this book was just outstanding!..how its from Sydney's point of view was a surprise but i liked it. Because you got to know about her more. There was much drama, excitement and it really was added and mixed in brilliantly. How Jill was added into the story. And we got to learn more about her too. However i expected that their will be another book coming soon. Telling by the way the story ended. Am hoping fr a romance between Adrian and Sydney. Cause in the story it made it sound like they were going to get together. Overall this book was AMAZING!

This book was good, but I don't think it lived up to the hype of The Vampire Academy series. Sydney was still a good main character, but her love life was practically nonexistant for most of the book, so it was kind of boring. It also took me a few weeks to finish this book, which is probably why I just didn't connect with it as much. The book hardly even mentions Rose and Dimitri, so don't pick it up expecting it to carry on their story.

Sydney is a teenage Alchemist, a human bound to protect other humans from vampires, whether they're the comparatively normal Moroi or the pure-evil Strigoi vampires. Sydney's been on a sort of job suspension after aiding and abetting former criminal Rose Hathaway of the Vampire Academy series, but now the Alchemists need Sydney's talents. Jill Dragomir, Queen Lissa Dragomir's half-sister, is in danger of being killed and the best way to keep Jill safe is to put her in a human boarding school--with Sydney posing as her older sister. Sydney's a consummate professional and she has some mild compassion for the Moroi, but living in such close quarters with a vampire isn't going to be easy after she's spent her whole life viewing vamps as abominations. The job is even trickier because she's working near Keith, a slimy Alchemist with a personal vendetta against her. Add to that, Jill's enigmatic friend Adrian Ivashkov is complicating matters, and their nice human boarding school is harboring its own host of secrets.

I changed my mind, he said, I'll take you up on helping me get a job. I want something entertaining he said. He thought some more. "and I want to make lots of money - but do as little work as possible" - Adrian to Sydney
